Business motivation: does autonomy or incentives work?

It's an interesting debate that Dan Pink raises in this TED video “The Puzzle of motivation” with Spanish subtitles on the motivation of company workers. I recommend it.

Apparently, companies would be wrong if, once they have set "correct" remuneration, they try to encourage productivity through bonuses, bonuses, extra payments, etc. Incentives may work best for mechanical jobs, but not creative ones

Faced with financial incentives, the solution is autonomy at work. Leave ample freedom for the worker to develop his work and find solutions.

Google and its 20% policy (leaving its workers 20% of their time to develop their own ideas) is not the only company that is seeing success with this type of employment policy.

What seems clear is that in the knowledge and innovation society it is necessary to propose new approaches to work and its motivation.

The solutions must be radically different from those used by 19th- or 20th-century companies and entrepreneurs in manufacturing industries.

We must pay attention to this type of proposal and of course advance more in new ways or methods of motivation.
